Going Back To College With A Toddler
Being a mom…. well busy is an understatement. So when decided to go back to school, I knew I was getting myself into a mess, but a good one. Are you considering going back to college? If so, this is the article for you! Lets talk about going to college as a stay at home mom.
First, I'll tell you about myself.
My name is Magdaline, and I’m a 24 year old stay at home mom. I’m a coffee addict and pasta enthusiast. I’m a content creator, who loves writing, photography, graphic design, and basically anything creative… but I really can’t draw.
I have a 2 year old son, named Vincent. He’s quite the handful. Typical terrible twos boy, who gets into EVERYTHING. He also has a language delay, which means we work on it… a lot. In my ever so messy kitchen, you will find a fridge covered in papers from speech that we practice daily. We work throughout the day to get him to communicate with us. We’ve came so far, far enough that I’m comfortable doing something for myself.
As A Mom, You Can Lose Yourself
Before I get into this, I want to say I LOVE being a mom. It’s something I’m good at and enjoy. Ever since I was a kid, I didn’t know about a career, I just wanted to be a mom.
With my son’s delay there was a lot of work and doctors involved. Soon, the days were blending together. I was getting burnt out. I realized I was doing everything for my son, my husband, and my house, but nothing for me. I tried to dedicate some time to myself. I called it “mom time”. But I still felt like I wasn’t being productive. I wanted to accomplish something. Do something for my future. I turned 24 and just figured this is it. I’m a stay at home mom, this is my job.
I was so busy momming, I lost myself. I lost touch with my dreams, goals, and interests. I figured it was time for a change, so I needed to decide what my next step was. I knew I couldn’t just go back to work because day care wasn’t an option and my husband works crazy hours. Plus, I didn’t want a regular job.
Why I Decided To Go Back To College: SAHM Style
I started thinking about all the dreams I had. I wanted my own company. Now, I don’t mean a HUGE company, but simply a small business, that I could do from home. The goal is to stay at home with my kid and still bring in an income.
I’m not exactly sure when, but at some point, it just hit me that I should go back to school. I called myself crazy! How could I go back to school when I’m always so busy… I tried to talk myself out of it, but it ate at me.
This is something I REALLY wanted. I want a degree. I want to walk across that stage and accomplish my goals. So I applied at SNHU. It’s strictly online. (And I’m majoring in graphic design!) If you’re a mama, I highly recommend an online school. If you’re considering going back to school, but you’re overwhelmed or scared, I’m so happy you’re reading this because I want you to take a minute and figure out your “why”.
